Our climate is surprisingly sensitive to these tiny particles
What happens to our climate if the ingredients of clouds change? That question is asked in a recent paper written by CERTAINTY scientists. Aerosols (small particles emitted by natural and human sources) can cool the climate by changing how clouds form and behave, partly counteracting the warming caused by greenhouse gases. This cooling effect may be larger than previously suggested. It also means that if we reduce aerosol emissions to improve air quality, their cooling effect will weaken, …and warming could increase further!
